The village of Argaka is located on the coastal plains of the Chrysochous area away from the more mainstream destinations. Nourished by its own reservoir this agricultural area is well known for its abundance of citrus orchards. The settlement of Argaka itself is divided into two parts, Pano Argaka (upper) located between the sea and the pine forest is the older of the two communities. Here, traditional style architecture can be found amongst the narrow, winding roads and the traditional spirit of Cyprus is still very much in evidence at the local kafenion which provides a focal point for the village's residents to gather, exchange news and pass the time of day. Kato Argaka (lower) is the newer settlement standing next to the sea. Although this area features more contemporary style residences, a small supermarket, a kiosk and a handful of tavernas dotted along the coastal road, the atmosphere is still very laidback. The undeveloped beaches of the Argaka area stretch along a natural coastline of coarse sand, shingle and pebble.
Polis is the principal town for the region, huddled around a pedestrianised square where visitors and locals gather in the mornings to enjoy a coffee and watch the world pass by and in the evenings to dine at one of the wide selection of restaurants, tavernas and cafes which radiate out from the centre. The town has an archaeological museum and cultural centre.
A little further along the coast from Polis is the seaside resort of Latchi. Latchi, once a small fishing shelter from where carobs were exported, the harbour has now been expanded to become a marina, though still retaining its original charm. Here you will find an array of inviting sea-front tavernas with a superb selection of fresh fish and seafood served daily. The coastline of this area can also be enjoyed by boat with daily excursions available from the marina. Small supermarkets and speciality shops allow visitors to stock up with all kinds of provisions. Polis municipal beach, an organised Blue Flag beach, is located just before the marina.
